Sarah Teather MP welcomes cold weather payments to support local residents

Brent Central MP Sarah Teather is reminding eligible constituents that the current cold weather will trigger cold-weather payments worth £25 per week. Payments will be made to eligible residents living in the HA9, NW10, NW2, NW6, and NW9 postcodes. Cold weather payments are "triggered" when the average temperature for a postcode is recorded as, or forecast to be, 0°C or below for seven consecutive days. Payments are made automatically to those who are eligible and there is no need to make a claim. People who are eligible include certain recipients of Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance or Pension Credit. The payment, made from the Social Fund, is a fixed amount for each week of cold weather. For many years this was set at £8.50 but was temporarily increased to £25 by the Labour Government in 2008.
