Fuel duty and priorities for 2012
This is a great opportunity to wish Gem readers a Happy and Successful New Year. It is interesting to note that many predictions are made at this time of year about the twelve months ahead; on the lighter side – from astrologists in daily newspapers to Old Moore’s Almanac and then to the more serious, established economists, business and political leaders. Focussing on the more serious predictions, it is obvious that 2012 will be an extremely challenging year for the nation financially. Our economic development over the short term will depend on the success of the Eurozone area in resolving its debt and economic difficulties. It accounts for 60% of our exports. Whilst other EU nations are facing a review of their credit ratings, the UK had its AAA rating confirmed.
