Spread the warmth

At risk of repeating myself, following on from my earlier post today on standing up for older people and those last week on heating help during the winter months, I wanted to highlight Age UK's 'Spread the Warmth' campaign.Last year in London alone 3,070 people aged over 65 died unnecessarily during the winter. This is unacceptably high; higher than most of Europe; higher even than those countries where the weather is far colder. It's a figure that must come down.I have talked about fuel poverty numerous times before. Poor insulation in homes is a contributor, as are rising energy bills, but, in the case of older people, the Government's decision to reduce the Winter Fuel Allowance by as much as £100 for some older people has caused immeasurable hardship for so many households.In the past I have worked closely with Age UK.
