Glasgow MP targets loan companies
Glasgow North MP Ann McKechin is asking the local community to help her work on a Parliamentary investigation into companies who may be taking advantage of vulnerable people who are in debt and unable to meet their household costs. Payday loan shops currently charge extraordinary levels of interest for small loans and debt management companies often charge substantial upfront fees. Ann hosted a community event this week in Maryhill to find out about rising debt levels in the community and how families in the area are affected by these companies. The debt management seminar featured voices from churches, housing associations and community groups. The seminar was held before next week’s Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee on which Ann sits continues its investigation into these consumer products.
