UK Government misled public on "problem families" in Scotland
Ann McKechin M.P. for Glasgow North has today criticised the UK Government for misleading the public on its estimates of so called “problem families” in Scotland and failing to provide funding to help Scotland tackle where there are families struggling with multiple social challenges.In August after the London riots, David Cameron pledged to “turn around the lives of the 120,000 most troubled families in the country”, however subsequent clarification in responses to Written Questions tabled by Ann and in responses to FOI requests to the Department for Education have made clear that the estimate only applied to families in England.Furthermore, no additional analysis is being made by the UK Government of the extent of the issue in Scotland, and the Treasury has confirmed to Ann that no additional funding will be made available to Scotland to tackle families with multiple problems...
