Media concentration is undemocratic
While welcoming, finally, opposition by the UK's other main parties to the BSkyB takeover bid by Rupert Murdoch's News International, the Green Party is disappointed at the ineffective nature of the debate. Opposition to the BSkyB takeover has centred on a call for an adequate fit and proper person test. The debate has failed to give due prominence to the intrinsic and unacceptable risks of a centralised media. Penny Kemp, a member of the Green Party national executive, said: "It's beside the point whether a corporation is 'fit and proper' or even benevolent.
