The Truth about Youth  

It was a great pleasure to meet with 15 or so young people from the North East earlier today, representing Truth About Youth. They had come to London to hand over a petition of 2,300 signatories to the Prime Minster and their message is an important one. That young people in this country are too often stereotyped and demonised simply for being young. We had a good conversation about how these intolerances occur and how they might be broken down. Distorted media portrayal was clearly a particular area where the group felt let down. Encouragingly the organisation, which is based in 7 cities across Britain, has already started tackling the problems. By forging stronger links with local media and encouraging reporting on the positive contributions young people make to society, an important difference is already being made.
