Last weekend I held two local Advice Centres on Saturday, one in Ilminster and one in Crewkerne. Both were very busy. On Sunday morning I travelled to Yeovil for what I consider to be my most important constituency duty of the year – laying a wreath on behalf of all of the people of Yeovil Constituency, at the war memorial in the town. This event has always been well attended in Yeovil, and over recent years the numbers have if anything risen higher, no doubt as people reflect upon the sacrifices being made in Iraq and Afghanistan. This was the twelth year that I have laid a wreath – twice as a parliamentary candidate, and ten times as Yeovil’s MP. This was the first time, however, when the rain has fallen solidly and persistently throughout the event, but even this did not deter a very large crowd from attending.
