Statement on launch of phone tapping inquiry
I'm pleased to hear that following John Yates evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee, it felt the need to open an inquiry into phone tapping. The committee chair is absolutely right to state that Yates' evidence today raises important questions into how the police investigates these allegations and informs suspected victims. I also welcome Yates' admission that he has effectively reopened the investigation into the News of the World. It's just a shame that it has taken the New York Times and the Guardian's own inquiries to do this. ...
