Secret laughter  

  'Why are you laughing?'   Two reporters asked me. One last Saturday another today. It's the story of a Russian Spy plot that is so amusing and incredible. It's tale that suggests the Russians had great foresight in seeking to recruit a spy in the LibDem Party about three years ago. Why?   It's a hundred years since the Liberals had a sniff of power. Did they know that the Coalition was coming?   If they are that clever they would not need spies. The prospect of my mate Mike as a spy doing the bidding of Putin is wildly ludicrous. He is his own man. No-one tells him what to think and how to vote. I believe he is the only LibDem to vote on a major issue against the Coalition.   His views are sound on all social issues and he has built up a great deal of respect in Europe for his political gifts. I do not understand his opposition to Georgia. But he does not...
