Deputy PM congratulates Kenya on new Constitution

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has congratulated Kenya as it adopts a new Constitution. The new Constitution was signed by Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki earlier today in front of crowds of people. Mr Clegg said the Constitution offered the country a “renewed sense of confidence”. The Deputy PM said: “On behalf of the British people and government, I warmly congratulate Kenya on the promulgation of a new Constitution. This is a significant milestone and a proud time for Kenyans. It is also a memorable achievement for Kenya’s Coalition Government. I commend the leadership shown by President Kibaki and Prime Minister Odinga, but also the many other Kenyans who have contributed over the years towards this historic moment.
