Phone banking for David Miliband  

By Elaine Percival On Saturday I found myself phone banking for David Miliband’s campaign in a sudden rush of responsibility for the future of the Labour Party. Spoke to a lovely, very pro-David party member who told me the first Labour election campaign he was involved in was 1935 – so he had been a member for a ‘little’ while! He remembered ‘the best Labour Party leader of all time’, Clement Attlee very fondly, though joked that I probably didn’t even know who he was! He’d even managed to increase the vote himself while standing in a safe Tory seat from 17% to 22% which is no mean feat. His support for our campaign just shows the breadth of appeal David has – he really is the leader that can get us back into power.
