Principles for hire
I woke up to energy minister Chris Huhne this morning saying his ideas of nuclear power have been 'mis-understood'. Using the crudest threat he said that the 'lights will not go out' on his watch. Why is this line used only to defend nuclear, never to promote renewables. As an old lag of the anti-nuclear lobby, I had Chris marked out as an ally. Obviously I was misunderstanding this statement to be mean that he was not in favour of new nuclear. "Ministers must stop the side-show of new nuclear power stations now. Nuclear is a tried, tested and failed technology and the Government must stop putting time, effort and subsidies into reviving this outdated industry. The nuclear industry's key skill over the past half-century has not been generating electricity, but extracting lashings of taxpayers' money." That was Chris three years ago. Has his enthusiasm...
