MCGRADY WANTS MINISTERIAL SCRUTINY OF NUCLEAR PLANTS
SDLP South Down MP Eddie McGrady said he is disappointed to learn that relevant Northern Ireland ministers will not make any submissions to the British Government's consultation on their proposals to build 10 new nuclear power plants, seven of them along the Irish Sea coast. Mr McGrady said: “I have received correspondence from Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster, who has responsibility for energy, stating that her ‘Department has not responded to earlier consultations on this issue and will not be responding to the latest consultation'. Environment Minister Edwin Poots has also confirmed that his Department will not be responding. “Through many years of anti-nuclear campaigning I have become all too aware of the safety issues surrounding nuclear power and the pollution of the Irish Sea from Sellafield.
