Warmer Homes, Greener Homes
The plans for a proposed ‘green’ transformation of Britain’s homes which will take place over the next decade, making them warmer and cheaper to run, has been welcomed by Gisela Stuart. The Labour Government’s new ‘Warmer Homes, Greener Homes’ strategy will aim to help up to 7 million UK households to benefit from eco-upgrades by 2020 in order to cut the UK’s total home emissions by 29%. The programme will also enable householders to benefit from a ‘pay as you save’ green finance scheme, and will introduce new energy efficiency standards for rented homes and social housing tenants. This strategy is predicted to create up to 65,000 jobs in the green home industry, and ensure that energy companies and local authorities join forces to assist consumers.
