PM hails Northern Ireland vote

The Prime Minister has welcomed news of the Northern Ireland Assembly voting in  support of the devolution of policing and justice powers. He said the  completion of devolution  sends a powerful message that “democracy and tolerance will prevail”. The PM said: “The completion of devolution, supported by all sections of the community in Northern Ireland, is the final end to decades of strife. It sends the most powerful message to those who would return to violence: that democracy and tolerance will prevail.” The completion of devolution follows the Hillsborough Castle agreement reached on 5 February 2010 where Northern Ireland's power-sharing government  agreed to  take on policing and justice powers from 12 April.
