New award honours British holocaust heroes

Britons who saved the lives of Jews and other persecuted groups during the Holocaust have been honoured with a new award in recognition of their bravery. At a reception at Number 10, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the courage of these “true British heroes” who “answered the call of humanity”. The award was announced last year by Gordon Brown on a visit to Auschwitz and followed a campaign by the Holocaust Education Trust to recognise British citizens who risked their lives to save others.
