The Witnesses Sir John Chilcot Will Not Call

Today’s papers give some  coverage to the Chilcot Inquiry and discuss the prospect of government lawyers giving evidence in the coming week about the legality of the war in Iraq.     As a recovering lawyer myself I shall be very interested to hear what they say. Like many people I was less than impressed when the Chilcot Inquiry was set up.     Its membership and its remit looked for all the world like a bucket of whitewash in search of a wall. Ultimately we shall judge the work of Sir John and his colleagues by the report that they produce but to be fair to them the early evidence sessions have displayed a seriousness and thoroughness which is encouraging. I am pleased that Gordon Brown will give evidence about his role in it all and before the general election. As a lover of theatre I can't wait to hear what Tony Blair has to say this time round although I do not expect him...
