MORAY MP WELCOMES BINGO DUTY DECREASE
Commenting on the Chancellor's pre-budget report commitment to cut bingo duty from 22 per cent to 20 per cent, the SNP MP for Moray, Angus Robertson, has welcomed the improvement in the current disparity between Bingo and other forms of gambling. The MP remains concerned that the Treasury has still not listened to calls to bring Bingo taxation fully into line with taxation of other gaming activities. Mr Robertson has visited local bingo clubs on several occasions to hear the concerns of both staff and players about the unfair taxation system. In addition many bingo players in Moray have sent in campaign cards calling for a reduction in Bingo Duty. The Scottish National Party’s MPs have long campaigned for an end to the unfair taxation scheme which has put great strain on business and played a contributing role in the closure of 31 clubs in 2008 and 2009.
