MP’S CONCERN OVER LOSS OF TERRITORIAL ARMY TROOP
Moray’s MP Angus Robertson has expressed concern over the MoD’s decision to disband a TA troop based in Elgin. Elgin currently hosts 236 Field Squadron (Air Sp) & Headquarter Squadron, 71 Engineer Regiment and Elgin Troop, 32 (Scottish) Signal Regiment (V). The MoD has, however, decided to disband the Elgin Troop of the 32 (Scottish) Signal Regiment. The news was confirmed by Defence Minister Bill Rammell, who states that the reorginisation of the TA is for operational reasons and to better integrate reserve forces with the regular army structure but later in the same letter states that the changes will ‘save £32.5 million’, giving a strong indication that the changes are driven by money and not by operational necessity.
