Giving communities more of a say in new housing developments

Throughout the UK, and from my own experience in the constituency, you can see that Labour’s housing policy has fallen far short of the mark across the board and particularly in development. By maintaining a top-down, target-driven system which actually penalises communities for taking on development, Ministers have alienated the public and created a natural suspicion and opposition to development. As power has been sucked away from local people by a desperate Government short on ideas, a new generation of NIMBYs has been created. The modern progressive Conservative solution is to ensure that communities feel ownership of their neighbourhoods and, vitally, can actually see the benefits of growth.
